YObykes conferred with the prestigious “OVERDRIVE Automotive Product of the Year Award 2007”.

Mumbai: January 4, 2007: NO PETROL YObykes, the name synonymous with electric two wheelers in India was awarded as “The OVERDRIVE Automotive Product of the Year Award 2007”.

In a glittering ceremony held at the hotel Grand Maratha in Mumbai on 3rd January, 2007, the prestigious OVERDRIVE awards were given in various categories of automobiles.

The awards saw an active participation by all the automobile and ancillary companies. The ceremony was attended by who’s who of the industry. Various industry bodies like Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and Automotive Components Manufacturer’s Association of India (ACMA) were also present in the ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shailesh Bhandari, Director, Electrotherm India Ltd (the manufacturers of YObykes) said, “We are extremely delighted to receive this award. Our sincere efforts in making an extremely cost effective, value driven electric vehicle for the masses in India has been recognized by the industry”.

NO PETROL YObykes were launched in February 2006 in Gujarat as an inexpensive, easy to ride and eco-friendly mode of personal transport. It has received wide consumer acceptance due to its “strong value proposition” coupled with “superior performance” on roads. It has sold about 20,000 YObykes and is available through 175 YOworlds across 9 states of west & north India. Due to increasing demand of this product, the network is being expanded quickly in eastern and southern states as well.

Though there are other strong features like “NO LICENCE” and “NO REGISTRATION”, it is the value proposition (runs 700 kms in the cost of one litre petrol) that has triggered quick conversions from money guzzling petrol vehicles. YObykes are very popular amongst housewives, kids, small businessmen and office goers and junior executives who are utility & value seekers and travel fixed distances every day. At present there are six models, YOsmart, YOspin, YOtrend, YOteen, YOtuff and YOtrust that are priced between Rs 16,000 to Rs 28,000.
